Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton says he’s proud of the soap’s gay parenting storyline.
The star said the storyline could help viewers see gay parents in a more positive light.
His character Sean Tully is to be reunited with his three-year-old son Dylan and his ex-partner Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou).
The couple will then raise the child together.
Cotton told New! magazine: “It’s two men pushing a buggy down a street – it’s modern life. And if nothing else it will give people something to talk about.
“If there’s one conversation about a young, gay man parenting in a positive way that’s got to be a good thing.”
Last month, a Coronation Street source said the scenes would be handled sensitively to avoid upsetting “older viewers” who object to gay parents.
Cotton said: “It’s a terribly old-fashioned view. Gay people are the same as anybody else.
“As long as two people are happy and offer a child unconditional love, I don’t see what the problem is.”
